The Early Head Start Research and Evaluation project is a rigorous, large-scale, random-assignment evaluation of Early Head Start. This is a cross-site national study consisting of 3,001 children, across 17 sites, with three phases of data collection (Birth to Three, Pre-Kindergarten follow-up and Elementary School follow-up).
Data collection methods include a mixture of direct child assessments, observational in-person interviewers, videotaped parent-child interactions and parent surveys. The 17 sites represent diverse program models, racial/ethnic makeup, urban-rural location, program auspice and program experience in serving infants and toddlers.
