Head Start Family and Child Experiences Survey (FACES), 1997-2018
Nov 2014This study collected descriptive information on the characteristics, experiences and outcomes of Head Start children and families, as well as the characteristics of the Head Start programs that served them. Five FACES cohorts have been fielded to-date - FACES 1997, 2000, 2003, 2006 and 2009.
This study included a nationally representative sample across 50 states and Washington D.C. The children and their families participated for 2-3 years depending on the children’s age when they entered Head Start. Data collection consisted of 1) one-on-one assessment of the children’s school readiness, and 2) parent interviews on their children’s development, family life and Head Start experience. In addition, Head Start and kindergarten teachers provided information about the children’s learning experiences, conduct and social skills.
