Excerpt from Report Abstract: In 2006, the Puerto Rican Family Institute (PRFI) was awarded a grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families to provide father involvement instruction to adult and adolescent fathers in the New York City area. The various curricula employed intended to increase knowledge about parenting, child development, healthy relationships, finances and employment, improve attitudes about the importance of fathers, appropriate discipline, marriage, employment and financial responsibility.
PRFI Brooklyn and PRFI Jersey City provided the National Fatherhood Initiative’s 24/7 Dad® curriculum to fathers (and a small subset of women who were interested in the services). Other curricula utilized in this grant included the Love U2 Communication Smarts, Sex Smarts, Relationship Smarts and Baby Smarts curricula.
The evaluation used a single group, pre-/post-test design to test whether the program was able to achieve the aforementioned goals.
