This chapter examines a variety of prenatal, post-partum and early childhood interventions, nearly all of which focus almost exclusively on mothers and children. The exceptions to this are Healthy Start programs and Head Start and Early Head Start programs, which have performance standards that involve father engagement and provide programs with specific inclusion strategies. Group prenatal care programs welcome a support person like the father along with the pregnant person. Some states make specific efforts to include fathers in breastfeeding initiatives and WIC programs.
